Duffle Bag, Bike Bag, Stuff

Gear and clothes are laid out.  My rear bike rack bag looks almost as big as my duffle bag! Helmet is on top of duffle; rack bag is on left side of duffle.  Right now my packed duffle weighs 13 lbs.  I have some items to add but I should be under 25 lbs total.  Awesome!

The rear rack bag is getting heavy - spare tube, tire levers, CO2 tubes and inflator, sun screen, iPod touch, phone, wind breaker, and snacks.  Out all day on the bike = lots of stuff in the bag.

Bike Tune-Up

Scheduled my pre-trip bicycle tune-up today.  First available spot is Friday, April 8th.  I'll take my bike into the shop a couple days early.  Hoping it's an easy tune-up (nothing major)!

Bicycling Quote - Gears

Life is like a ten speed bicycle. Most of us have gears we never use.

Packing

WomanTours' - What to take on your Epic Tour packing list.  Great list to follow.  A fully supported tour allows me to bring along things I wouldn't dare pack if I had to pack it into my bike panniers and peddle with it.  Thank you SAG Wagon.

I still need to consider picking up a few items on the list - full-finger cycling gloves, neoprene/rain booties, tights, rear view mirror and a whistle.  My existing rain gear will be making the trip.  My clothing in the off bike clothes category needs to work both during the tour and, during my 5 days in Washington DC at the end of the tour.

Check out my link to the Woman Tours blog post on How to Pack for Bike Tours With Only a Carry-On for more packing help.

I walked 450 miles in Spain with a backpack weighing in at 14 pounds + water.  Everything must fit into my duffel bag and my bike rear rack bag.

I've got this!

The Florida Hills and Head Winds!

My hill training is going back and forth over the new Pinellas Bay Way Bridge.  On a 10-15 mile ride, I'm up to 5 round trips!  On my way home after a 25-30 mile ride, I go over the bridge one time.

For head winds, I head out to Fort de Soto Park.  I can usually count on riding into the wind on my way out, and then heading into the wind on my way back.  Sometimes it feels like I'm always heading into the wind at Fort de Soto Park.  That being said, I'm happy averaging 12 miles an hour on those rides.
