Carolina Beach, NC to Top Sail Island, NC - 54 Miles

Surprise surprise - warm (hot) and sunny today. Reapplied the sun screen 3 times.

The stats: max speed 22.3 (maybe when being chased by the dog); 12.7 MPH (hot out there); 53.8 total miles; and 4 hours and 13 minutes on the bike.

Today we had some pretty busy and from time to time some sketchy sections of road.

I've ridden 996 miles!

Breakfast at the trailer this morning - oatmeal, granola, coffee, yogurt, pastries, and fruit.

Made the usual for my lunch break - peanut butter sandwich with a side of gorp with M&Ms

The usual buzz of activity - luggage going into the trailer, putting air in the tires

The hotel we were at, I was on the second floor - only had to schlep my bike and bags up/down one flight of stairs.  Others were on the third floor.

Rode out with Fran and Valerie

I got chased by another dog today.  I yelled at it and that did the trick - and began pedaling quickly.

Leaving a SAG stop

Second and final SAG stop of the day

I rode with Suzanne from here to the hotel.

The next 8 miles were on highway 17 - nasty road, 4 lanes, cars/ trucks going 65+ and a section with no shoulder. We were riding in one of the traffic lanes - nasty.

A few miles out of Surf City we took the POD (picture of the day)

Suzanne and I got to town around 1:00 and stopped at Hwy 55 for a 'burger', a few onion rings and some frozen custard.  Fun place and good burger.

Tonight's hotel

Dinner to tonight - we are being treated to a dinner to celebrate Mothers and Mother's Day. Going to the Crab Pot Restaurant for hush puppies, salads, a steamer basket of seafood, pie and wine and beverages.  The party bus is picking us up at 5:45.
