The thought for the day after a 100 mile day -
Nothing is impossible, the word itself says 'I'm possible'
Audrey Hepburn
Today's numbers: total mileage was 73.9; max speed 23; average speed 13.2; 5 hours and 34 minutes riding time.
It was a day of the dogs coming out into the road - including another pit bull. At least three dogs came out after us (me).
Breakfast at the hotel - oatmeal and I took a bagel for my lunch.
This was the view from breakfast room
The first 5 miles were on US 17. From the hotel we got on a 2 lane on ramp, circled, and then had to cut across 2 lanes of traffic that we merged with. At this point, we were on the shoulder of 4 lanes going in our direction, then the two right most lanes ended and we were on 4 lane highway (2 lanes in each direction). Yikes!
There was a shoulder but it was full of debris including broken glass. We survived!
After that section on US 17 the roads improved a lot.
At mile 35.6 we boarded the free Pamlico River Ferry for a 30 minute ride
Waiting for the ferry - we arrived at 10:00 ish and caught the 10:15 ferry - plenty of time to spare! We averaged 14.1 MPH getting to the ferry - the wind was with us.
Filling water bottles while we waited for the ferry
On board the ferry
Nice ride
Getting some shade at mile 45
Another shade stop
The 37 miles after the ferry seemed long - tired legs and it was hot outside. Then we missed a turn near the end, and that added an eatra mile to our day.
Dinner
Fish, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, asparagus, melon and cheese cake
Grilled fish
My plate
Tomorrow is a 57 mile day.
